I remember my mother being very critical of it, saying it was sending a terrible message about encouraging people to run away from their problems rather than face and deal with them. That thought never occurred to me. More than a bit of overinterpretation of a very innocent song, IMO.

I still do! I saw her in person at a local club when she was doing a tour in 2018. It was a great show - her voice wasn't what it was but still pretty dang good for a woman in her 80's. My then 66-year old self was so thrilled to see her.

It's really a shame that all the recordings of her are from such primitive equipment that they aren't up to modern standards. None of the remakes of her work quite capture the timbre of her original performance, but the originals are of low quality and full of noise by modern standards.
