No strings or horns....pretty much acoustic guitars and rhythm with Van's vocals totally carrying it. Amazing guy. Who once cut in front of me at the Black Rose in Boston to get a Guiness.

until TODAY?

Have to say ... I feel dumb right now.

I'd heard I think 4 of the songs before, and it's not Astral Weeks or Moondance, but holy crap it's GOOOOOD! Not a duff track on it, kinda like Moondance II (came out only 10 month later).

It was one of those "whoa, how did I never check this album out before?" moments.

Seems it's my 3rd favorite Van record ever, pretty much instantly.

Sober enough to type this, but too drunk to chase the link. My favorite VM album.....Life in San Fransisco right behind it.

without the horns …
Van fell from my #1’artist spot due to his antivaxx views, wish he had just taken the time to view instead his whole body of work, release new work unheard, such as this and other tunes never released, instead of whining about lack of live concert opportunity…

Just my 2pence op

I used to live and breathe his music, was the go to for most any mood … collected more than I knew what to do about it, then he stepped in it with the whining about what was killing ppl (his fans too) worldwide
From 1979, what he was then imo
https://m.

great sax riff midway thru, sax was Van’s 1st instrument…

I dunno....I separate the music from the immediate social message, I briefly met him when he rudely shoved his way forward to get a pint at the Black Rose - late 70's. And he made himself known, the scrawny bastard.

Covid precautions, it was his 75th birthday month in August. During the entire month, daily, an Irish music magazine called Hot Press played covers, all sung by Irish singers and groups. Most of them were great, and a few were amazing.
A couple of my favorites:

It is a song I often listen to when I need to calm or clear my head, along with a few others.

I HAVE heard the album version like 1000 times, so ... it's cool hearing an earlier take.
