(64,988 posts)And, I'll resurrect my Zappa story for those who haven't read it before.
I was staying at the Frankfurter Hof in Germany back in the early 90s. ('91 I think)
Walking down to the hall opposite my coworker & I was a guy with 2 kids. Guy I'm with says "That guy looks familiar.". I tell him it was Zappa.
Later that day I see the posters around town promoting his show(s).
Next morning I go down early to meet my companions & the suppliers for breakfast.
Frank is sitting in the atrium having coffee & reading a paper. I go over and tell him how much I liked his " Shut Up & Play..." series.
He says thanks, and then asked if I've had breakfast. I say no, and he told me to sit down and join him.
So, we sat there for about 40 minutes eating & talking music.
For all his musical eccentricities, he was a pretty regular guy.
My partners finished eating and we needed to head out to see a manufacturing site using the reactor design in which we were interested.
I shook his hand, thanked him for the meal & conversation and headed out to get my car.
A couple years later he died.
Right place, right time.

(64,988 posts)I was with Harry Casey (K.C. & the Sunshine Band) & 2 of his singers.
We were in the Admiral's Club in the Atlanta Airport. (I had memberships with both UAL & AA, because of so many miles.)
What an annoying twit!
He kept shifting in & out of a British accent, was loud, scatterbrained, and I think he was loaded.
Both of his singers apologized for his behavior.
He kept on insisting he was going to be A.M. Chicago the next morning, long after there was no such show. (Turns out it was Oprah, but she wasn't freaking Oprah yet.)
Then, he made a production about picking up the tab for the drinks. The drinks were free!
