Today I attended the funeral of a superbly talented guitarist.

He was 23 years younger than me so I think of him a young. When I got home today in my mailbox was music- 3 dead guitarists, Michael Hedges, Charlie Byrd and Lightening Hopkins plus one still alive-Leo Kotke. I think I will listen to Hedges, Byrd and Hopkins.

My primary care doctor was a resident at Mayo and one of his patients was Kottke when Leo was having vascular issues that lingered because of the horrible frostbite event he had early in his career.

He still stays in contact with Leo and his wife. (Although i haven't seen the doc in a year, so i'm assuming she's still alive and well.)

Also, i had a friend who was a good guitar player but a wonderful luthier. Built accoustics in an out-building on his property. He gave Leo a double neck acoustic that Leo like so much that when Leo signed his endorsement deal with Sigma, they contacted my friend and offered him 200k for the patent. That was in 1979, so that was a ton of money.

When Leo got his first model from Sigma, he returned the original to my friend. He still has it.
