(22,380 posts)I just now saw this after responding to the other one.
I'm so tired, but just off the top of my head:
if infra red can do this kind of b/w I'm very interested. I recognize how beautifully you show the places I just recently saw myself, though the .
I am very interested in learning more about this. The second to the last does not work for me, just because I don't get the colors. But you're on to something I'd like to know more about.
The street car (with some of the top cut off, again) is my very very favorite.

(36,818 posts)Most digital cameras have a filter on top of the sensor which filters out most IR. You can get an IR bandpass filter and put on the end of the lens, but this leaves you with a couple of different problems. First, since the IR filter is still on the sensor, very long exposure times are needed to get IR images. The other problem is you can't focus the camera once the IR filter is on the lens.
The other way is to have the camera's internal IR filter removed and replaced with an IR pass filter. This will block most visible light from the sensor and produce IR images. For the most part, the camera will work as before. It can be focused and exposed pretty much as a normal camera. The focus point will be slightly different, but as long as you use a middle to small aperture setting you won't have too many problems with focus. Some lenses include an IR focus point on the DOF scale.
Pure IR photographs appear as B&W, but some IR filters will allow some of the visible spectrum (reds, oranges, and/or yellows) to pass through. Post processing is used to convert the reds to blues and you get the "false color" IR images shown.

(5,113 posts)when you think about it since its IR its not visible light anyway so any color will be false. the colored ones involve channel switching. basically you use photoshop to swap the red and blue channels. this makes the sky blue.
with IR white balance also becomes strange. the camera I got had it set for me when it was converted. Im thinking of getting a converted nikon d70,just havent pulled teh trigger yet

(36,818 posts)The false color IR images are produced using an IR filter that passes some of the visible spectrum. Those colors are typically channel swapped, like you say, otherwise they would contain mostly red. Pure IR images are monochromatic.

(8,039 posts)fell in love with NOLA. I like them all and they make me yearn to be in New Orleans now. I would not crop the streetcar because you would lose the sign. (Sorry Mira.) Not even going to try to pick a favorite, just going to enjoy each one.
