Okay, all the IR discussion lead me to this site.

Nuts and bolts of using unmodified cameras. 'Course the examples are all Olympus. Who woulda' thought? Coming from me?

On my Nikon DSLR, I tried a R72 filter. Exposure times were quite long. I don't remember how long exactly, but anything that moved in the wind was blurry. You'd need a day with zero winds and we just don't get too many of those around here. The R72 filter is also extremely hard to clean. All in all it wasn't really a great experience.
