Related: About this forumAbandoned Apartment Complex
I was in Ellicott City, MD this past weekend and wandered across this abandoned apartment complex. It was hit hard by vandals but fortunately not any taggers.
And these were in the woods near the train museum in EC...

(22,380 posts)There is something so hauntingly sad about the abandoned areas in our country and that buildings, which to me have heart and soul, are allowed to just sink into third world disrepair.
It's tragic, but it attracts me and my camera like a fly.
I like the colors you chose, and they show your sadness to me.

(14,040 posts)But I like to use HDR on them and then desaturate instead of oversaturating.
And abandoned buildings draw me like a fly too (I am a consumate rule follower but if I see an abandoned building, I throw caution to the wind and go right past those no trespassing signs). I think it's sad that they're allowed to be ignored and brushed aside when they are so many people that would gladly take care of them. I'm planning a weekend trip when it gets a bit warmer to West Virginia. I hear there are lots of abandoned buildings and homes there.

(22,380 posts)Given the money, I am sure you are right about the many people who would "gladly take care of them". Instead, many hide in them and live in them in squalor and fear. I hear them sometimes.
I predict that you will extend your stay in WVa.

(14,040 posts)but the pics I've seen of the...um, squalor, are intriguing. My biggest issue will probably assuming the homes I photograph are abandoned but really aren't. I saw some of those in Alabama years ago (driving through to Georgia).

(14,040 posts)is the inside of a power box of some sort (not an electrician). I stuck my camera up in there and shot. It felt a bit like I was playing "Operation" cause, though I was pretty sure the electricity wasn't live, I didn't want to take any chances.
The buildings did indeed seem sound and across the way looked to be very expensive condo's/townhouses that were recently completed. I think I saw a sign that the buildings I photographed were being razed to create a park. Something about a "nature reclamation project."

Totally awesome shot of the electrical box, especially shooting blind!
