Are you missing the cold weather where you are?

Here, have some of ours. This is on track to be the coldest January on record here in Anchorage, with an average temperature of 2.7 degrees. This is Ship Creek, a salmon stream that runs through downtown, rising and falling with the tide. Although it looks frozen solid, the water is running underneath and you can hear the ice popping and cracking loudly.

I'm kind of glad in a way. Hopefully, this will continue for a few years and build our ice pack back up. That would be awesome.

Maybe, MAYBE a total of 10 inches this year... over three "storms". Such a shame.

Very unusual for this time of year. We had 1 day of rain then it stopped. During a normal year we'd be getting really sick of day after day of rain.

That's an amazing picture, btw.

Yesterday morning we did have a bit of fog though.

glistening on the ice seems to mock us.
I can't believe you have such cold, when we have incredible warmth, I shiver looking at your photo.
We high 5 each other around here about our low heating bills, and are beginning to think there will be no winter this year.

I took a walk today, in 62 degrees. Since you asked, before responding, I got up from my laptop, walked 3 feet, and took a photo of what I brought home from the walk.
Here it is, the first daffodil of 2012

I almost flipped out when I saw your granddaughter Sofia walk.
I've never run across one who walked at 7 months, and I'm the oldest of 7 and am quite familiar with babies. The earliest in our family was 9 months.

Did your daughter say she was exhausted???

And, yes, Sofia is the only 7-month-old walker I know, too. She'll be nine months old here in about 10 days. She's probably running by now.

I haven't talked to Kristina in a couple of weeks, but I imagine Riaz is the one who's exhausted since he's "Mr. Mom" and trying to run the business, as well.

Now I may just go out today and take some photos of the water gates! They are encrusted with ice and are always beautiful and facinating.

Although we have been having a mild winter temp wise, today it's quite cold. But . . . I am missing the snow. We did get a few inches Friday night, but nothing compared to the last two years. No cross country skiing yet this year - drat!

though starting to be concerned over the lack of snow pack in a lot of areas. It does not bode well for water this summer. Love the photo and thinking it is as close to that cold as I need to get. Have you been able to get any of the aurora borealis in the last week of so?

It's really cold, and we would have had to drive out away from town to get a clear view without the light pollution -- and late at night, as well. I might put out a little more effort the next time they come around if it's not so bitterly cold.
