Ricoh first introduced a sensor/lens module, and Sony ran with the idea. The GXR was a critical success, but the price put it out of reach for many.

(29,414 posts)a Hasselblad or Leica lens on an Instamatic camera?
By the looks of the bulky size of that lens add-on, you might as well carry around a slim point-and-shoot. Unless the CCD in your average smartphone is also equivalent to a small point-and-shoot? I don't know such details as I never use the camera in my semi-smart phone.

(60,065 posts)It lacks many features of the RX100, but the image quality should be there.

(29,414 posts)These are remote-cameras controlled by a smart-phone. It had seemed more like some kind of weird physical bypass of the actual lens on the smartphone into the add-on lens.
The photo in your link needs to say as much, too, instead of their "Lens in one hand, smartphone in the other" caption. It's misleading.

I enjoy cooking...sometimes. I can cook though. I like cooking for large groups and not so much for just 2.
I like Atwood.

(4,483 posts)I use a high end P&S and a wifi card with my iphone, it gives me the best of both worlds, better picture quality and the ability to edit and publish on the spot. What Sony has done is marry the technologies in a more integrated package and I'm tempted to get my hands on one.

(4,483 posts)Is for video, I have a bit of a project coming up where I need to film interviews and with this system I can have the camera on a tripod and use the iPhone to view the scene untethered and remotely control the camera.
