See this bird?

This is an evil bird.


Don't be taken in by its fluffy cuteness. Don't allow that adorable red coloring to fool you.

The bird is mean and selfish.

Does it come to nearby trees to feed? Yes. Does it stay for several minutes? Yes.
(BUT) Does it position itself in such a way as to make taking its picture easier? NO! (No!No!No!)

It pivots and it dodges. It bobs and it weaves. Always hiding itself behind branches and leaves.




It flies away to the pine woods when I try to get closer. (top 2 photos) It waits for me to back away and then it returns.

It obviously hates me!






I'll keep trying...but don't you dare side with the bird!


Which is a very evil yellow-bellied sapsucker (woodpecker)

You can't see it very well but it does have the black band under the red of its throat.

1. You are making me cackle out loud.

I like the outing with your "evil" bird, and you know what! I had one just like it doing all but paw stands on the cage that holds a sunflower suet cake, and loved looking at him, clueless to his ID. He has been back a few times.

Now I know. It's an evil yellow bellied sapsucking wood pecker!
This makes my day, yours and mine are both beautiful.

2. It was just so frustrating. I'd line the shot up..he'd move.

Over and over and over again. lol

He'd flitter from branch to branch. I'd hear him begin to peck again..shift for the shot..and off he went again.

It was like a game to him and I wasn't amused! lolol

I want to get a truly good shot of him so I'll keep trying until I do.

I, too, was chasing a woodpecker. At least you actually got some pictures of it.

The leaves are nothing like a magnolia leaf.

That's some sort of hickory.

ETA.

My neighbor says it is an oak. So, well. I don't know.

It does have acorns. I looked online and it does look like a Laurel Oak.

9. I have one of those, exactly

like that all the way to the way it acts. Must be genetic. lol Oh except mine likes empty the feeder onto the ground. Yes, evil bird is the polite way to put it.

10. I've called it worse. lol I have an accomplice now.

This little thing is a Ruby-crowned Kinglet. You can't see it in this picture but it has a tiny red patch at the back of its head.



This bird likes to feed from the holes the woodpecker creates. This ticks the woodpecker off and he chases the little bird away. (Which always comes back)

This wonderful teeny tiny bird forces the woodpecker to expose itself.

I'm still not getting the shot I want but thanks to the Ruby-crowned Kinglet, I just might have a chance.


I got this during the territorial dispute (yesterday).



Course, that will have to wait. Yesterday as I was considering the possibility of cutting off the offending branch, I realized that I needed to take a break from the woodpecker.

There's a Barred Owl that hunts on the golf course. I think I'll give him a try.
