I still haven't bought a camera, which I want to use for cottage (scenic views) and baby, and I want to be able to post pics here etc.
Am I correct to suspect that this Canon won't connect me to internet? I've got to have ease of access here and fb etc, so I'm still looking, but gotta get something before baby arrives. Missing beautiful sunset now, can take with my not smart phone, but can't post.
Thanks for thoughts.

(149,593 posts)Digital cameras (I believe) come with a disk that allows you to load the software to connect you to the internet.
Maybe I'm wrong?
I'm sure someone will tell us both the right answer!

(4,483 posts)That really is half of the equation, you also need a smartphone to connect to the camera so you can quickly post to the net.
Even if the camera doesn't have wifi but uses a SD card you can get an EyeFi card to make it wifi.

(22,756 posts)camera won't connect directly but either card or cord will enable you to load onto computer and then onto photobucket or such that will allow you to post here
can't miss out on baby pics!!

(130,865 posts)Would it be better/as good/? to get 'smart phone,' which might take decent pics? My major day to day interest is scenic pics, as I'm in MD @ cottage, and baby will be in NJ, so I won't be with him every day.
Price difference? Ease of operation? Before daughters, folks gave me a good old Nikon which I used for travel pics, bought several lenses. I was never a great photog but did record family. Now vision through lenses not as good, so want/need easy, and old Nikon died.
And how the heck does photobucket work???

(22,756 posts)cameras are pretty personal things and you need to find the one that "feels" right I have a Canon and a P&S Olympus which I use most of the time...
there are numerous sites where you can store your photos in order to link them to DU (Photobucket is not necessarily the best) this is my Photobucket page the link to others is the third locked thread in the Photography group
sign-up, upload your photo, get the link (one way is by small icon in upper right of thumbprint, click get links and click on the IMG code to copy then paste in your post)

(15,812 posts)I'm so old fashioned that I post to the internet and Facebook from my computer, and put photos in my hard drive. No need for any kinds of connections at all..............
I even end up emailing my iPhone photos to myself to save on my hard drive, and post those from my computer.

(130,865 posts)which enables me to take pics that are OK, not great, but I can't post them, can send them via e.mail.
And a laptop.

(14,040 posts)Some do (like my Macs), if not, it surely has a USB port. All you'd need is a nice P&S, a memory card and a card reader... something like:
$83.99

$15.99
http://www.amazon.com/Anker%C2%AE-Multi--4-Slots-High-Speed-Support/dp/B0062EUE54/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1384291295&sr=8-10&keywords=sdhc+card+reader
$12.67 (Transcend 16GB Class 10 SDHC Flash Memory Card)
http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-Class-Flash-Memory-TS16GSDHC10E/dp/B003VNKNEQ/ref=pd_sim_p_3
$112.65 + shipping
Cheaper than your daughter's camera, cheaper than a smart phone and shoots video too (though you may want to get a bigger memory card if you're shooting video).
Or you can get this Samsung P&S with wifi built in (I think it automatically uploads to Facebook or some such)
$117

(130,865 posts)Now you've given me homework to do!
I've learned that my USB port will do the job.
Hey, the Samsung P&S with wifi strikes my fancy, I really want/need SIMPLE! How do people post pictures HERE???
Looks like Samsung's got it. A friend wrote:
Starting at under $100: http://www.samsung.com/us/photography/digital-cameras/EC-ST150FBPRUS
If you're near a WiFi hotspot you can post directly to the Internet!!!

I have a hotspot to use at the cottage!

(14,040 posts)I'd imagine many of us use Flickr or some other image hosting service and then paste the URL to the image.
I hope the info I provided helps you.

(130,865 posts)I think I'm ready to buy the samsung, which as it turns out was earlier suggested to me. Now that the baby is approaching, urgency increases.
I assume that DUers will be able to help me figure out how to post pics!
