hard drive arrays

so the time has come to look at hard drive arrays for my photo library. right now its stored 4tb external thunderbolt drive configured as RAID 1 (mirrored disks). its gotten painfully slow in aperture
im looking for something faster im looking at a pegasus r4,a lacie 5big or a drobo. does anyone have any experience with any of them?i want both speed and security so i would configure the array as either RAID 5 or maybe RAID 10 or 1.
any suggestions?

please specify how much usable space you want in the new array, and what your budget is.
