*** FEBRUARY 2014 CONTEST - RESULTS ***

(Cross-posted from GD)

This month had to rank as one of the greatest runaways in DU Photo Contest history, as the very first photo submitted for the contest jumped out to an enormous lead in both its preliminary round and the finals, and never looked back, more than doubling the votes of the second-place finisher. (And, to be honest, the first moment I saw it pop up in the submission thread, I knew it was the all-but-sure winner.)

Anyway, it is with great pleasure that I announce the winner for February's Photo Contest...

Solly Mack

...for True Colors.

Second place goes to...

teamster633

...for Bad Moon Rising.

Third place honors go to...

Mz Pip

...for Where Have All the Flowers Gone - Pete Seeger.

The Host's Awards (two of them this time, just because I said so -- and, as the host, I get to make the rules!) go to "Me And My Shadow" Ted Lewis, by justiceischeap...

...and to Turn! Turn! Turn! (to Everything There Is a Season), by intheflow...

...while a Special Topical Award goes to Sunflower (Lenny Kravitz), by mnhtnbb for combining both of the top-two topics in this month's initial poll: "...based on a song" and "Graffiti."

The final standings:

1st: True Colors - Solly Mack
2nd: Bad Moon Rising - teamster633
3rd: Where Have All the Flowers Gone - Pete Seeger - Mz Pip
4th: A Lion in the Winter - Xipe Totec
5th: Here Comes The Sun - The Beatles - edbermac
6th: "Daddy's Hands" Holly Dunn - handmade34
7th: Turn! Turn! Turn! (to Everything There Is a Season) - intheflow
8th: Old Man River ~ William Warfield - Scuba
9th: California Dreamin'---Mamas and the Papas - Curmudgeoness
10th: Sunflower (Lenny Kravitz) - mnhtnbb

Congratulations to all!

Also to regnaD kciN for again showing us how to really run a contest, which will come in handy for Solly Mack who needs more practice

Solly - your photo and the "how I did it" thread made me very happy.
I showed the submissions to a friend of mine who is an arts teacher at the oft mentioned school near me UNCschool of the Arts, and she pointed to yours as the winner, and also unfailingly chose some of the others that were in this winning lineup.

Beautiful work everyone - I'm so pleased you let me be in your group.

I want you to know your photo and tutorial on how you did it inspired me to get some RainX and give it a go. Let's just say my attempts need considerable refining.

Bad Moon Rising is a wonderful photo, too.

Great contest! Thanks for the terrific job as host, regnaD kciN!

I got so frustrated with myself trying to get a shot. I'll confess to taking nearly 2000 photos over several days.

I was constantly adjusting the height and angle of everything. Trying to find that "sweet spot".

Love your photo!

Thanks, Mz Pip.

I felt so sorry for everyone who ended up in the preliminary on the same thread. The voting was so uneven.

Loved them all. I always enjoy seeing the contests and what everyone comes up with.

I honestly didn't expect to win. My goal is making the top 10. Anything after that is gravy.

I thought teamster633 would come in first. Excellent photo.
