Amazing Photos from Camera Phones

You don't need a fancy camera to capture inspiring photos. Here are great images taken with camera phones, but first a few tips when taking photos on your phone:

- Avoid using the flash, says Yahoo Tech's David Pogue.
- Don't use Instagram to take photos.
- Touch the screen to pinpoint the focus of the photo.
- Assume the 'tripod' position.

Most of these photos have been enhanced with processing software. Which is not to say they aren't spectacular, just that the headline is a bit misleading.

If we do a phone pic contest, and I think we should, we need to discuss whether we should allow extra processing or have them be straight out of the camera. And just for the record, almost every shot I take has extra processing, whether it is from my DSLR or my point and shoot. I have never used my phone, and rarely use my iPad or iPod for photos, and don't process those when I do use them.

The question that has to be discussed when it comes to a phone contest is where the processing happens, whether it's done in phone or outside the phone.

The second photos post was absolutly done outside the phone and there's where I'm kind of a purist, the work needs to be done in phone.

Why do you say that the work needs to be done in-phone?

I ask because I am ignorant of phone photos (I still have not got a cell phone, so don't know the phone photography). I also ask because, to me, the photo that I can look at on a cell phone (or on my camera's tiny screen) is too small to know what I am seeing. It isn't until I download to my computer that I can really see what I have.

The design concept of a camera screen is meant for a quick review of your shot it's not like a smartphone screen which was designed to frame, shoot, edit and be the place where the final product is viewed. The smartphone screen also has a lot more visual real estate than most screens on a camera back, editing on a phone is not an issue especially with the plethora of photography related apps available.

Ok that said, why in-phone editing only? Well mobile photography isn't just about snapping a shot with a smartphone it's about the process and that includes creative use of apps for post production. Quite frankly, I think it simply doesn't make sense to have a phone contest if you don't have the complete creative experience on the phone.
