They don't do well around here but where I grew up they were everywhere. They trigger lots of nostalgia for me.

We had peonies in Missouri and Nebraska, but people tell me they are hard to grow
here in NC. Too much humidity, I guess. We also have a lot of shade at our house,
not to mention deer.
