Back in my college days I taught Photo 101. The first thing after f stops and shutter speed were the "rules of composition". The class got an assignment each week to illustrate one of these " rules" either by executing it or breaking it to good effect.

Texture
Leading lines
Rule of thirds
Dramatic lighting
And all the others.

It would afford a lot of leeway for subject matter and creativity. Everything from portraits to sweeping scenics could be used to make an entry.

Just a thought . . .

You earned it.

I agree that having a subject that is one of the principles of photography would give a lot of room to venture forward for the participants.

sometimes, especially when I'm cropping. It's amazing how moving the boundaries of a photo just a little bit one way or the other makes such a big difference in the impact it has.

Texture or leading lines would be fun.

But I just want to hear some ideas thrown out, and then I'll make up my mind. I don't think I'll do a poll.

Entrants would be free to Photoshop to their hearts content, or do whatever they want so long as the entry started out as a photo.

on your first place photo.

You can not imagine how glad I am that you came in first.

But…it is an excellent photo and deserves first place.
