Some random fall scenery

Jim's cousin, who he hadn't seen in over 40 years, came up last week with his lady friend for a five-day visit. We had to do the speed tours since we had so little time, but the weather was beautiful, and we had a ton of fun.

This is the beach at Seward on Tuesday.

The jellyfish come ashore around here in the fall. There were dozens in the shallow water.

This is Summit Lake

Wednesday we went up to Talkeetna. On the way, we stopped to photograph this dog team that was training by the side of the highway.

First-timers - The Susitna River in Talkeetna, Foraker, Hunter and Denali in the background. We couldn't believe our luck that we got such clear weather.

Are the spirit houses built over the graves--or are the coffins in the spirit houses?

and a beautiful day to show family around.

I specially like the last one with the church, with the fall scenery, first time seen or heard of spirit houses.

Love the one of the huskies training with a wheeled vehicle! But that's what you must do when there isn't any snow!

The scenery is wonderful too...

Thanks for sharing!

Yes beautiful weather! Here too - 85 yesterday and today!

I recall hearing a story on NPR awhile back about Native American Spirit Houses in a Russian Orthodox graveyard - this must be the place!

One of the books I'm reading right now is "Into the Wild", so my curiousity about Alaska has been piqued. I don't think I'll try to drive there, though!

Chris McCandless is kind of a controversial figure here. A lot of old-time Alaskans don't have much sympathy for him (kind of like Timothy Treadwell, the grizzly man), but others see him as kind of a romantic figure. I think he was just naive and didn't fully understand the dangers he would be presented with. Excellent book, though, in any event.
