Related: About this forumMy laptop is dying.
Been using windows based PC equipment forever but thinking about a Macbook pro 15" (refurbished). Any experience with apple vs PC? Will be using Corel Paintshop Pro X7.
All images are saved to a remote hard drive thank goodness!

(8,543 posts)If the primary purpose of your laptop is photo editing, you might want to just stick with the native platform of the software you intend to use.

(2,943 posts)Not sure about Corel Paintshop Pro X7, use Adobe Products at this time (which the cloud version is unstable, do not use).
Older Corel Painshot (I am familiar with) started as a PC product, that said, updates were few, cumbersome and no longer available for older versions.
There are differences in the user interface with PC and Mac, just make sure any computer you buy has:
1) A good screen for editing your images (Mac's are OK! some PC's are made for clarity only, not good for image manipulation.)
2) Depending on the imaging manipulation you are doing, (laptop) PC's can have a video card with independent memory, whereas, the Macbook share the cpu and video memory are shared. With the Mac you need at least 8Gb, better to have 16Gb.
3) Hardware and Software are more expensive on the Mac, PC's are cheaper on both counts. The hardware is essentially the same for both platforms.
Note: With the Mac, learn how to actually close a running program. Hitting the red button does not close a program, CMD Q or using the exit program from the top command line closes a program.
Let me know if you have any other questions, I will attempt to answer them for you...

(14,559 posts)I will stay with PC as PSP doesn't run on Mac w/o interface software.
Now looking at a Lenovo Think Pad 15 inch. Kinda basic as I'm budget challenged. Will take some work but PSP allows me to adjust screen color balance/contrastnans such to match result to WYSIWYG. Just have ego burn thru some paper.

(4,483 posts)Are pretty much the same between both platforms especially if you've been Adobe based. While PC based computers might have more lower cost options than Mac, Photoshop users have always paid the same price and have had the added benefit of not having to repurchase software if they changed platforms and now with Creative Cloud integration is seamless.
