Related: About this forumI went into the woods this morning to see if the stream was running
It wasn't, but the world was turned upside-down in the few pools of standing water.
So, I shot mushrooms instead. I didn't expect to find much because the 'shroomers tend to descend on the place in advance of the photographers and decimate the mushroom crop. So, I was pleasantly surprised to find a great variety in mostly good condition. Don't ask me what they are. Don't know. Don't care. I just think they're pretty. Especially the deadly red ones.
I particularly like this shot. It's pretty much of a blind shot.
This one was green with mold.
Then I came out of the woods and found this monster truck in the parking area. The tires alone probably cost more than my car. When the zombies come, I'm going to look up this guy.

(46,436 posts)they'll make you pretty sick. I think they can be prepared for tripping, but you have to know what you're doing. Stick with psilocybin if you want to get high.

(18,219 posts)psilocybin. I used to love that. I am a mushroom hunter, and eat wild mushrooms all the time, but some mushrooms are just too hard to identify for me to mess with.

(3,747 posts)By Paul Stamets. It's an excellent guide if you're looking for them. If you're already a mushroom hunter, then you'll find it a lot easier. It's not too hard to identify them as long as you're willing to be thorough. A good spore print and a couple other clues readily differentiates the Psylocybes and the Galerinas and other stuff.

(18,219 posts)I have a real problem with the LBM's. But you are right, I might be able to do it if I tried hard enough. Maybe I will. It could be fun. And I already have overcome the problem with the difference between Honey Mushrooms and Gallerina, with is deadly.

(18,998 posts)As far as I know it is the only place they grow...at least in the warmer climates.
We used to pick them and make a tea out of them...you can eat them too but they don't exactly taste good.
And once you see one of them they are distinctive...break them open and they turn blueish...

(19,459 posts)Looks like you made a trip up to Las Posadas. My dad was the Fire Captain there for about 15 years, and we used to gather those big Italian mushrooms that grow up there.
Really nice photos. Love the smell of that place during/after the rain.

(19,459 posts)Lots of deer, fish, plants, etc. Don't know if they ate the mushrooms, or just let them be.
I've found many an arrowhead or flint tool while wandering about the flats around the station.

(22,669 posts)I liked that. Great picture taking BTW.
For a second I was thinking you were actually going to "shoot" the mushrooms before the shroomers got them, just so they couldn't get them.
The truck was a funny tangent. Probably his business truck, so upgrades are written off. You could do the same if you have a business. j/k

You mean with the camera, right!
We'll just agree to leave it there.
