Responding to Ricoh's price cut, the Nikon CoolPix A (silver) for under $400.

This is a very good camera too. The big difference between the Coolpix A and Ricoh GR is the price. The Nikon retailed for $1,100 and the Ricoh GR for $799. Both produced similar results, with the Nikon a bit better in low light. Both are good stealth cameras for those times when a DSLR would intimidate.

It has the same sensor as my D7000 and has a lot of things that most compact cameras lack like DSLR type controls which allow for easy manual overrides of automatic functions, a configurable function button, and a hotshoe for a camera mounted flash. Some may be turned off by this camera because the lens offers no zoom, however the focal length is well suited to this type of camera and at f/2.8 it's going to be much faster than most compact cameras, which as far as I'm concerned is much more desirable.

low pass filter, and produces beautiful black and white images. It can be cropped to emulate a 35mm FOV, and a built in ND filter.

I'm partial to the simplicity of the Ricoh. There's plenty praise for its menu, and the manual controls.
