Related: About this forumSo juxtaposed decided on his own to throw seeds of dissention in the Photography group
Discuss photography as an art, skill, and means of communication, as well as share photographs. Professional, amateur, digital and traditional film are all welcome. That is the header in DU about our forum. You, juxtaposed, fit in here and so do all of the rest of us.
What does not fit is you being rude because we are a homogeneous group, we care about each other and our hobby, craft, or profession: photography. I remember very well when a few years back I won a contest and you showed up from left field for the first time and trashed everything about my photograph, and said I had won because my title was clever.
I was shocked and actually got upset about this and second guessed my rights to participate. Later I learned two things, one was that you are an exquisitely talented photographer with gorgeous results, and the other was that you had been off your meds.
In the meantime you have begun to participate at times. I hope you win a contest, you easily could and certainly don't need clever titles or photoshop. The beauty of our situation here is that you are free to use them, and the host in charge.
I have never alerted on a poster in the 12 years I have been a part of DU
But there is always a first time.
Please pipe down, get informed, or go away.
edited to get "juxtaposed"'s name right.
I don't see it here often enough to have remembered. Sorry!

(10,337 posts)Sorry Mira. I caught this snark yesterday. A direct personel attack becase someone feels that a certain photographic tecnique does not pass their purity test? Really? Sad, but it seems that no matter what one posts these days, there is always one. It's why I almost never post anymore. It's also why my ignore list is so well populated. Sorry Mira. DU ain't what it used to be.
In other news, after two years of work, a major portion of my renovation is complete. I'll PM you some pics. None of them have been photoshopped cause I don't know how. Wish I did though. I could think of a thousand uses for that particular skillset.

(22,380 posts)I know you vote and pay attention to our contests. That's another big smile.
A third even bigger one is hearing you are closer to done on the huge project, and I am looking forward to seeing pictures of it.
DU is what we make it. If we want to make it better, we can.
Just like in our politics we get what we chose to deserve.

(10,337 posts)for best picture is the obvious frontrunner, and I agree, I will often vote for the next in my line just to keep it interesting.

(149,523 posts)I greatly appreciate your input today. I was quite taken aback at last night's post and didn't know just what to say. I don't know juxtaposed at all.
You have my support and my respect.

(5,113 posts)i started a thread about heavily post processed images a week or so ago and how some photographers didnt like them and called those who did it not photographers.
that seemed to set juxtaposed off

(46,436 posts)I'm in the "don't like heavily processed photos" camp, but apparently a lot of people do because they seem to win contests (and sell) all the time. There's really nothing to be gained, though, from going all postal on someone's image just because you don't personally care for the processing. Perhaps Juxtaposed was just having a bad night and will come back to apologize.

(8,039 posts)It just made you more daring to share. I even saw the not liking it and debated on saying something about the tone but wondered if it was my reading and they just really hated manipulation. It can hard to tell mood with typing so I tend to err on the side of me being touchy. I enjoyed you photos and am tempted to take the time to manipulate something to death and back again just because it has been a while since I sat and just played for hours and hours.
I really need to start commenting more again and not just hitting rec. No that I have ever been overly productive on the typing stuff.

(90,758 posts)It wasn't your fault.
I blame gnomes.

(19,459 posts)It's quite another to be verbally abusive. If anyone were to have any blame I suppose it would be me. I really didn't need to reiterate Peggy's question, I've only participated in 2 or 3 contests over the years I've been here, and I'm not enough of a photographer to be able to tell anyone about Ansel Adams' darkroom practices.
I only brought Adams into the discussion because his iconic status seems to bring him into many discussions about post processing.
I didn't intend any insult or harm, and to be honest with you I don't feel all that culpable; however, if anyone were I suppose it would be me, and for the reasons I stated above.
Edit: I don't know who alerted on the hidden posts. It wasn't me.

(4,483 posts)And if someone is going to be a purist, whatever that means, then this contest format is never going to make them happy.
If a photographer wants to be judged on technique as a major part of their score then you need to have people that understand technique doing the judging not the general public.

(15,546 posts)'crap, here in the Photography Forum?" Then I read it and wondered what the hell the poster meant. We've always had discussions about, and some contests with, altered or edited images.
Talk about a tempest in a teapot.
But what bothered me is the attacking nature of the complaint. We don't do that here. The 'culture' of the Photo Forum is mature, responsible and calm..............
