What I've been doing instead of taking pictures.

Growing season is short but intense here - you gotta jump on it as soon as it warms up, or it's too late. Spring was a couple weeks early, so my garden's been in about a week. A lot of work, but satisfying. I'll post pictures of the flower beds when they get blooming a little more.

but I'm especially waiting for the columbines, my favorites. I lost some plants because of our weird winter and lack of snow cover, but enough stuff is coming back that I think it'll still be good. Natural perennial gardens change from year to year, so I never know exactly what I'm going to get.

Those are always best when homegrown. The depth of flavor be beat!

This is a terrific set-up you've got! Like all the contours and terraces. Really nice!!! Happy growing season! The gardenias are starting up again in the bushes across the street. And avocados beginning again a few doors down from there. NICE.

We can only grow tomatoes here that mature in 55-60 days unless we have a heated greenhouse, which I don't. I bought these as fairly good-sized starter plants.

My friend down in San Francisco gave me a bunch of heirloom tomato seeds that she's been collecting, so I pulled out all the short-season ones and will try to grow some from seeds next year. I have a light set-up under the house that I've used to grow other things , and I suspect it will work good for tomato plants, too.

Haven't grown yeller ones before. I can hardly wait to taste it. We have a couple of good growers in the Valley so we get some good plants, and they're all organic.

Black Russian
Tumbler
Sweet million
Heirloom Suberian
Bison
Paul Robeson

A couple of those are good for containers. Ann had some seeds for yellow tomatoes, but my research showed they would probably take too long here.

Both are good, although I like purple Cherokee better than Black Russian.

I love those dark heirlooms. Lots of flavor.

Were yours earlier than that? I have some of those here, too, but I was going to send them back down to CA because I thought they would take too long to mature.

Also, very hard to grow. They're sparse and they tend to split. But oh the taste!

awww... gardens

I have taken a few photos of spectacular places where I am working now, but I would trade it all for time to work in my garden (flying home Tuesday to play a little )
