we spent the night in manitou springs, a little town outside colorado springs. husband wouldn't take me to the focus on the family headquarters so i could flip them the bird.

garden of the gods

no filter here, it's just how it came out with the storm rolling in

from the arcade in manitou springs

manitou springs cliff dwellings

near the top of pikes peak (the drive was so stressful for the both of us that we turned around a few miles from the top)

Or am I just in a mood?

The arcade looks fun, and I enjoyed the scenery. I love cliff dwellings.

the cliff dwellings were neat, but not as big as i had envisioned (went to mesa verde when i was a kid) and i learned all the history in the museum in school. the husband, however, had a great time as it was all new to him.

it is such beautiful country down there.

Well, a ways up the road, anyway, at Green Mountain Falls. Uh, the Big Foot Sign is new.

from 2012

GREEN MOUNTAIN FALLS, Colo. -
Is Bigfoot real? It's a question that many have asked since the first sightings back in the 1800s when explorers began talking about an ape-like creature that walked like a man. Many scientists have brushed off reports that the creatures exists, and so far no real proof has been presented.

Daniel Masias hopes to be the one to prove Bigfoot's exists. His fascination began in 1982 when he claimed to have seen two of the creatures near his Green Mountain Falls home one morning.

"In the winter, when there was snow, we noticed there were footprints. The prints didn't have shoes on them; they were just bare feet," he recalled. Masias described the creatures as hairy and less than 6 feet tall, but the footprints they left behind were not human-like. Masias said one creature has a foot span of about 12 inches, the other about 7 inches. So, not really big, about average human size," he said.

When asked why no one has seen these creatures or taken pictures with current technology, Masias said he thinks the creatures are coming through a wormhole, an intergalactic travel portal from one galaxy to another.

Guess I got out just in time. No Big Foot sightings when I was a kid. Lots of bears, though.

Every now and then some yahoo would have to be rescued from a formation because they thought they could climb it.

A lot of people are rescued on the road up to Pike's Peak. They're often found huddled on the floor of their car. Drivers will sometimes climb to the backseat and then slide into the floor.

Love Manitou Springs!

Love your shots! Thanks for the memories!

i wanted to curl up on the floor just being in the passenger's seat. my nightmare scenario was that we'd get to the top and the husband would get altitude sick, so i'd have to take us down. he thought i was being silly with my worries, but he soon realized them himself. he loves driving and does great in the mountains, but he was white-knuckle.

wish i could have spent more time in the garden, but the rain chased us out. i had a hoodie, but the husband didn't and refused to wear the rain jacket i brought for him, so we had to vacate. i was born down there and my mom said the same thing about the yahoos trying to climb the formations.

but I'm not one of them. My imagination runs wild.

At the time (don't know if they still do), people were charged for their rescue since it was posted not to climb.

I loved the gardens - except during a plague outbreak. A real mood killer for getting back to nature. Hanta was making a round at the time too.

I loved Colorado! (deadly cooties and all) Had my first up close and personal bear sighting. (He was next to me car)

I was there in the early 90's.

Your photos made me very happy.
