Spectacular sunset this evening. Best color AFTER the sun had gone down. If the old saying holds, we should have very calm seas tomorrow!

(130,876 posts)Usually happens that way, the best color appears AFTER the sun sets!
I took about 60 shots from the time the sun started setting until about 20 minutes after it had set. We've been here a week and had none of this intense color
before tonight. In fact, I had come in to work on editing shots--looked out the window--grabbed the camera and went back out.

(135,425 posts)If you're a vacationer, how do you like doing that?
I've heard good things; never been, though.
Stunning pics--well done! Mother Nature is a fantastic model!

(31,384 posts)but have considered it. Can't get my husband to do it. He loves the life of our university town (Chapel Hill).
We do have friends who live here--have had a place for about 25 years--in the resort where we are staying. If you are a diver or like snorkeling, it's fantastic.
We've been to a lot of the Caribbean islands--and Hawaiian islands--and I do think the snorkeling (we don't dive any more) is fabulous. Not much to the rest
of the island. Very dry--almost desert like.

(135,425 posts)I wonder if it's tough to get a residency authorization there, or is it easier just to do a "part time" thing?
It's probably a little remote for my tastes. I have family in PR (which had HORRIFIC water issues this past year) and JA, but I like going different places on occasion!
I have heard great things about Chapel Hill--I understand it's a place where, once you stick yourself down, it's easy to take root!

which recently was approved for expansion. Several years ago the island became more connected with
the Netherlands and as a result has been getting $$ for improvement projects. They also changed the residency laws.
Previously, a non-EU passport holder could spend up to 6 months/year on Bonaire, but now it's been changed
so that someone actually could spend all year here.
It is a small desert island. The beauty is swimming around in the seas surrounding the island. If you're a diver--or like to snorkel--it's a terrific
spot and tends to show up on a lot of the "best place to dive" lists.
Aruba and Curacao are not far away.
It takes about 4 hours to fly here from Atlanta. Not many major airlines come here--but you can go direct from here to Amsterdam! If you island hop in a little plane,
there are more options for getting in/out.

(135,425 posts)They do a little snorkling but they aren't real scuba types, but they take pics, take walks, have a few friends there, and think it's great because it's not overly developed. They keep encouraging me and mine to give it a go!
I am fascinated by the concept of a wind powered desalinization--it sounds like a winner to me. They should do that in CA!!!! Up and down the coast!

(4,178 posts)There was a time when Bonaire was "home"
I know those sunsets and the people.
You have no idea how you made my day!
Thank you! Mucha Danki.
I hope you enjoyed every minute. It is simply paradise.
I miss it so much. Especially in winter.
