Leadville, CO

I'm crossposting this from the travel section. Leadville, CO has the highest public airport in North America, elevation 9933' MSL. Some of the surrounding mountains are higher than 14K.

They give you a certificate for landing there for bragging rights.

Nice place and friendly people. Wouldn't mind going back.

I've flown a MU-2 and a Lear 55 into Leadville. The Lear was very fuel-limited coming out in the summer. Had to hop over to Pueblo to refuel for a flight to Boston.

Not really a problem for me to get out of there as I was airborne in about 2,000'. I suspect most jets are going to be fuel limited getting out of there if they can even make it at all. I stopped at Pueblo on the way there. Nice little airport and friendly FBO.
