When we had our January contest with the theme of light, I entered a shot I'd taken several years ago when my husband and I were on Bonaire. Here it is:
I started thinking about coming back--maybe for my birthday?--and here I am.
I'll post some photos over the next week while I'm here. Just a few to start out.
From the patio of my room, the view to the marina
and the view out from the entrance to the marina
The resort will set up a table for you to have dinner on the beach, and this table for 5 was waiting at sunset...
The view from my table at breakfast this morning
It's an open air restaurant, built out over the water. The birds are all waiting for handouts.
This cheeky devil came right up and helped himself to a piece of potato off my plate
This handsome fella was also hanging around
And coming for a handout
On the rocks outside my patio there are quite a few green iguanas.
This guy has his camouflage act on
And this guy has his don't mess with me posture going on
I thought I was coming to get away from the rain...not this morning! It poured down right after breakfast
Edit 1 to add:
Patience rewarded! This morning I was out taking some shots of my little iguana buddy and then came inside to upload them to my laptop. Here's one:
Looked out the window and a second iguana was making its move out of its hole. Grabbed the camera and tried to sneak out the patio door. Uh uh. Second iguana was having none of it and darted back into his hole.
So I was planning breakfast in my room this morning with a protein bar and some cheese/fruit leftover from a snack plate yesterday. Got it together. Went outside and sat and waited. Finished my breakfast. Waited some more. Then some more. And he finally came out! Did not move from my seat, but caught the confrontation shot!
And then the second iguana moved off (on the right) after the guy who was there first didn't challenge him.
Iguana #1 with about 2/3 of his tail visible
And finally, the big iguanas (#1 and #) have moved away. Some smaller ones have come out.
I think this guy is a young black spiny tail iguana (a different species)
And a smaller green iguana with all his tail visible
And from last night, looks like a patriotic Texan docked across from my patio. He's flying a US flag and I think, a Texas flag, visible in the daylight.

(7,888 posts)the photos of such a lovely place. I found myself wishing it were me watching the rain or dining on the beach.
Have fun, and did you say it was a trip for your birthday? Happy birthday

(31,979 posts)Thank you for posting such great photos. They really made my day. Hard to believe that a place in the world looks like this when I live in the midst of Ohio gloom and cold.
May I ask where this is located?
is Harbour Village in Kralendijk, Bonaire. The island is off the coast of South America, outside the hurricane belt, and the climate is quite dry for a tropical island.

(31,382 posts)I'm having a birthday lunch with a couple I've known for 30 years since we lived in Missouri. They've had a place here for about 25 years and now live here full time. Sold their place in Missouri last summer.
