I went with the concept of a monumental event.

If you've never been to DC during the height of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, it's worth the trip! My shot was taken April 11, 2015. They usually have over a million visitors during the couple of weeks when the cherry trees are in full bloom. The Tidal Basin is spectacular with views of the various monuments--especially the Jefferson Memorial and the Washington Monument--framed by these glorious cherry blossoms.

And yes that’s a totally monumental event. I only live a few hours away. I should go this spring.

before you move to The Netherlands!

The peak season can vary. The year I was there the full bloom was fairly late. It can happen in March. So it's best to hold off making plans until the Park Service predicts the peak. https://www.nps.gov/subjects/cherryblossom/index.htm

I wondered if you'd enter a moon shot. I had one of mine--an old one taken from the deck of the house in Chapel Hill--that I was considering. It was going to be titled "Moonumental".

Well, I have so many moon shots, I thought I should enter one! I love the color on this one too.

I'd love to see your Moonumental" shot!

I was hoping to close the entries tomorrow. But I could just rearrange the timeline I guess. I'm not in the US, so Thanksgiving travel won't interfere. I may have an emergency trip back to the States because my dog has a liver tumor, but I won't know until next week (just found out, but since he's acting totally normal, I doubt there's much urgency at the moment).
Thanks!

Maybe it is the hosting element. I often don’t want to risk hosting if I’m traveling a lot.

by uncoupling hosting as an obligation from winning is to create a calendar of volunteer hosts.

I'll put up a thread to explore the idea to run in the Photography group and see what kind of response we get.

We dropped 4 contests a year out of the calendar not long ago. Maybe we need to adjust the calendar to remove a couple more.

I'd love to get to 20/21 By tomorrow morning so that I don't have to adjust the schedule (it's no skin off my back if we have to though).
