We may only be able to have digital contact with friends for a while. I decided to come back a week early from my birthday trip to Bonaire. I've been back since early Tuesday morning, the 10th, which was the birthday I was supposed to be spending on Bonaire.
This is the first time I've taken my camera out since coming home. Yes. Dawn. What can I say? At least there is that to anticipate.
Share a photo that makes you smile now as we all hunker down and try to avoid getting sick or passing an illness on to others.

(14,887 posts)We are in the "brown" season (dirty snow melting, grass brown, etc.) and this splash of color makes me smile.
I was sorry to hear that you had to cut your vacation short. That must have been a difficult decision. Bonaire is such a beautiful spot.

(31,374 posts)Yes, I wrestled with the decision for a day and a half after my son and his partner canceled joining me on the trip. Was getting some messages from the pet sitter that my elderly dog was having some problems. Watching the exponential growth of the virus--especially in Italy--made me nervous that flights could suddenly get canceled. If it weren't for the dog at home, I wouldn't care if I got stuck on Bonaire for a month or two! In the end I was able to reach the airlines (took 3 hours) and change my return trip. American only has 3 flights/week from Miami back and forth to Bonaire, so if I didn't get on the Monday flight I would have to wait for Friday and I thought there was probably going to be less travel on Monday than Friday to limit the extent of any "exposure" to anyone who was sick. And I heard plenty of coughing waiting at gates when I did come home!

(6,561 posts)This one always makes me smile - Comet Bradfield, April 27th 2004, 3:40am
Lots of good memories are attached to this photo. I'd been out with my telescope since dusk the night before and had an absolutely glorious time flitting around the night sky like a butterfly in a garden.
The comet's tail was as long as 24 Full Moons placed side by side. The Andromeda Galaxy is in there, too. It's a small diffuse smudge located about 1/5th of the way in from the left edge of the photo, and down just a bit from the top.
The man who discovered this lovely, graceful comet was William A. Bradfield (1927-2014). In total he discovered 18 comets, sadly this was his last. He discovered this one about a month before I took the picture... he was almost 77 years young at the time.

(31,374 posts)When I was on Bonaire I sat out every night after dinner watching the moon and the stars, listening to the waves. Saw quite a few satellites moving quickly across the sky! No comets, though. That is quite a catch!
BTW, Happy (belated) Birthday!
Bonaire sounds like paradise. What a bummer to plan a gorgeous trip like that and then have to cut it short. But as the saying goes, better safe than sorry.

(149,525 posts)I just always love this one! The appearance of the bird was a very lucky coincidence. And I love your sunrise photo! The texture and colors in the clouds just blew me away!

(19,459 posts)It makes me smile because the weather is beginning to turn nice here. We're getting rain now (it's a good thing because we haven't had rain since January) and the days have that spring feel.
The ones that make me smile most are of family, and I'm always hesitant to post those.

(31,374 posts)I went to the library and came home with a sack full of books which should take several weeks for me to finish. I've seen posts from some people that their libraries are being closed. No! I've never evolved to an e reader, but I guess if I'm forced, I will. Love the feel of books and turning the pages. Bookmarks collected from trips.
At least we can still travel in our imaginations.

(11,791 posts)I'm trying to hold it together, but this is not a good time for socially responsible extroverts. My house feels like a prison and all I've done is work. I should have been in England right now, sorting out my future (on a number of levels). So here's one of my favorite pictures from Borough Market, where I love to walk around Friday evenings and people watch.

(6,561 posts)Take it one day at a time, it won't last forever. How often do you go to London? The closest I've been to Borough is Twining's Tea Shop on Strand... was planning another London trip this summer but it doesn't look possible now.

Theres a great little Mexican restaurant in Borough market. Ill be back mid-May, as soon as they lift travel bans.

(6,561 posts)It's not time for our beautiful Marsh Marigolds to emerge yet, but they're one of the first flowers to bloom en masse after the snow is gone. They grow in ditch water colonies - such bright little islands!
