I don't know enough about the technical end to comment on the iso, but you've captured some wonderful images of the raw energy that comprises rodeo competition.

Thanks for sharing!

I shot indoors this weekend in a theater under decent stage lighting at 3200 and was extremely concerned about the end product...

Very nice shots you captured...

at 5000 ISO! I've never shot that high! Don't even know if I could!

But . . . you've got some great shots here. Be proud!

you bring us the most amazing things to see. I am awed by the results, the freeze action certainly is perfect.

the noise reduction I had to use reduced the sharpness more than i liked. I had a choice of less sharpness or more noise. neither choice made me real happy. is it to much to ask for a camera with iso 5k performance as good as iso 100 (and costing less than 2k ). alas in a few years maybe .....

Your D7000 should handle ISO 5000 without much trouble. One of the things you can do to help with the noise is to dial in a +0.3 EV compensation, then darken the image in post if needed.

or just push the iso up 1/3 stop? thats my understanding on how a dslr actually handles exposure compensation. I could be wrong though ive never really used exposure comp

Which might mean that you need to up the ISO even more to get the needed shutter speed to freeze the action.

I normally stay on the whole increment ISOs (100, 200, 400, 800, 1600...) so a loss of 1/3 of a stop is no big deal.

12. that was my problem

i needed a fast shutter speed to freeze the action. so i was using shutter priority and a wide open lens.
