They grow well here and are quite pretty if you get close enough, which I did today.

I envy your agapanthus. We planted five but found although they are listed as "deer resistant" our deer don't resist them at all. They were chomping the leaves back almost to the ground!

A week ago we transplanted them into one of the terraced beds and put crinum into the space where the agapanthus were. The agapanthus are finally getting leaves back and the crinums are settling in. Now we have to wait a couple of years to find out which crinums we have. We had some milk & wine ones (with white and read striped flowers) and at least one spider lily, but when we dug them up to rescue them before the construction, they all got mixed up.

I sort of love this haphazard discovery method of gardening - it keeps life interesting.

Well, we don't have any deer hereabouts, so nothing eats our flowers! I just love how they look when they first come up, before they open.

Good luck with your crinum plants! I've never heard of them, so maybe you can post some photos when you have flowers!

Since you asked for pictures, here are some from a month ago in my garden.

Here is a milk & wine one:

Another plant you won't see is coral bean. Here is a flower stalk:

And a coral bean plant:

Coneflowers are common here, but I got a hybridized variety Pow Wow Berry:

And another native, heliopsis:

We have just a couple of little strips alongside our driveway, and so we don't have as much room for them as you do.

Every year, I take so many photos of those flowers! Even though I have lots of duplicates, I can't resist.

And if you can imagine, they are even more beautiful in person. Alas, but they don't last very long...

But I love them while they do.

Agapanthus is on my get list at the nursery. It looks like fireworks to me.

I was out in the yard this morning and saw that the deer had eaten all my Monarda blossoms! I’ve been waiting so patiently and they were just about to pop. Grrrrrr. Danged deer...they aren’t supposed to like Monarda.

I often hear stories like yours from my friends who live in deer country. I would be devastated if we had deer, and they ate my flowers too.

Have you tried planting the Monarda in a more sheltered spot? It's got to be hard to find a place where they'll thrive and where the deer can't get to them.
