Related: About this forumOk, who would back me to just have an hour show with stars, athletes, and politicians....
Why does every talk show have to move on with guests??? I want an hour show of just one guest.....a sports star, a politician, a movie star for the hour......how awesome would that be?? I hate shows that just talk for less then 10 minutes. Can I get some backing??

(14,783 posts)Before he was outed as a creep, of course. Long before actually, because his PBS show went to sh*t the last 5+ years compared to what it was a decade or two ago.
I definitely noticed it after he took the CBS morning show job (though it might also have been age-related or open-heart surgery-related, b/c those things happened too, and I don't remember the timeline exactly). His political content, story-of-the-day content, interviewing other journalists in a panel cable-news-style content went through the roof the last few years. And he did a lot fewer entire episodes with 1 guest, instead having 2 or 3 or even 4 shorter segments. I suspected it was because he had less time to do his homework. It's easier to cover current events on minimal prep than talk to an artist, author, director, athlete, where you'd need to familiarize yourself with their career/life's work in order to have a coherent hour-long interview in which you didn't embarrass yourself. Also his interview skills fell apart, he talked over guests more, interrupted more, asked more leading questions, asked more non-question questions.
But the original style was great, and I miss having a source of long-form interviews of a diverse mix of interesting people on topics I might not have sought out on my own.

(16,330 posts)especially when it's someone really big and they give them all of ten minutes and then move on to a cooking segment. I don't need a full hour but two guests would be enough.
I've often wondered if the guests themselves don't want to do it. They often reveal a side of themselves we don't get to see. So maybe more than ten minutes is too hard for them.
