Related: About this forumAnybody watching the new BBC series "Copper"?
It's pretty interesting. It's about Irish immigrants in NYC at the time of the Civil War. The main character is an Irish Cop and veteran of the Civil War, Kevin Corcoran, is true to being a what a cop was back then, maybe a little bit corrupt and violent, but he has his own moral standards and really doesn't care for the corruption around him. He rescues a child whore who is being hunted by a man who killed her twin sister. Well, it goes between the drawing rooms of the rich bankers and the whorehouses of New York. Here is the trailer.

Kevin is one hunky Irish guy too. Only two episodes have aired on Sunday night and I'm hooked.

(533 posts)the screen was so dark I had trouble making it out. Did anyone else notice this? I adjusted my TV but it was still hard to watch.

(1,999 posts)It's very well done; it just doesn't appeal to me right now. I DVRd everything that's aired so far but haven't watched but the first episode and a half.
I think the problem might be that is so very realistic. I'm more in the mood for escapism. Maybe stream some Arrested Development or classic Doctor Who.

(102,192 posts)for his wash basin-- and you see chamber pots being emptied into the street, that is pretty damned real and not something normally presented (nor thought much about by most of us). I liked that (in a later episode) a comment is made about the smell of flowers--with floral arrangements all over the upscale home-- that is a smell never associated with commoner-dwelling homes of "Five Points"... How different the lives of the haves and have-nots.
A lot of grim reality, though.

(20,453 posts)Leave it to the Brits to address to American audiences what it was like in the 1860's... The whole period is portrayed so well, IMO.
We don't watch much drama, mostly political junkie and a few other high channels on cable, never premium, but this show's PREMIUM!
Oh, and during a Michigan/Notre Dam football game, I noticed the "fighting Irish"marching band took to playing the serie's theme.

(48,217 posts)I immediately picture the Disney child actor who was in a lot of movies and Mickey Mouse Club episodes, including Pollyanna.
