A rough weekend for gay charcters on tv

NBC cancelled the New Normal and Smash, TNT cancelled Southland, ABC cancelled Happy Endings, and Cameron Monaghan tweeted that he hasn't been signed for the next season of Shameless. Major league bummer.

The wife & I enjoyed it very much. Happy Endings was cool but I never liked The New Normal. We were about to download season 1 of Shameless.

It started out to be a fun "dishy" show, but soon devolved into something else.. Uma?? really??

then the screamer??

I quit it when she showed up..

It's as if they decided their "unknown" cast was not exciting/interesting enough, so they ruined it..

I do like Happy Endings, and I'll miss that show.

Cameron Monaghan...is that the Gallagher kid (Ian?), or Mickey? Either way, that makes me sad. One of my favorite aspects of Shameless is that it doesn't have just one gay character. There's the two high school kids, one in the closet with the door open, the other in a complicated and heartbreaking kind of denial, the Muslim shopkeeper, Steve/Jimmy's dad, Carl's foster patents, the gay mafia/gay rights guy...it's kinda like real life.

And you're right, the Mickey character depends on the Ian character. My absolute favorite part of that last episode was when Mickey couldn't even tell Ian "Don't go." All he could manage was "Don't..." I'm gonna miss that story.

But also, since the overarching theme of Shameless is 'keeping the family together', I really hope they bring Ian back.
