Shameless, once again, was dissed by Emmy's.
Wonder if it's because it doesn't really fit into a neat category.
Only nomination:
Outstanding guest actress in a drama series
-- Carrie Preston, "The Good Wife" / WINNER
-- Diana Rigg, "Game of Thrones"
-- Joan Cusack, "Shameless"
-- Jane Fonda, "The Newsroom"
-- Margo Martindale, "The Americans"
-- Linda Cardellini, "Mad Men"

(4,851 posts)I think you and I talked about this earlier this year following the Golden Globes. I continue to maintain that award shows mean nothing to TV. Certainly its free advertising for the producers/networks, and a chance to dress up and give yourself a pat on the back, but at the end of the day, a good show can certainly have a long run and never win an award. It means nothing.
As for the awards themselves, I can honestly say that every person/show nominated in the drama categories were great. Shameless is adored by its fans and the critics. It gets the numbers, and that is all that matters.

They need to have comedies against comedies & dramas against dramas..
Ensemble shows are hard to categorize too, because MOST of the characters are "supporting" actors/actresses...and many have very small roles, but HUGE impacts on the shows..
The whole award show thing is off-putting too, since so many shows are on premium channels that a LOT of people never see..

(4,851 posts)I agree that it is difficult to compare roles, which is why the awards mean nothing. They are just a marketing tool and a way to make powerful people feel better about themselves. Its all nonsense. Just enjoy the art. Well written shows with good acting does not need awards. Awards have nothing to do with whether a show stays on teh air, other than they might give a show with no audience a longer chance to find one. But if a show makes money it stays on teh air, if it loses money, it goes.
