Related: About this forumShameless - first episode was funny. Welcome back Fiona and Frank, et al.
So the first episode of season 2 of Shameless aired. I LOVED it. The only problem with Shameless is that it has so many characters and moves so fast that if you blink, you can miss something important.
So it starts up in the summer. When we last say Fiona, she was freezing in the winter on a subway platform deciding not to move to an island with Steve. So something like six months have passed. Fiona has a new waitressing job and she seems to make good money. Veronica is her bartender, and is probably the best bartender I have ever seen, remembering drink orders the way she did.
Frank is back and is as disgusting as ever. I love William H. Macy in this role. Though I thought the bet thing was a bit much. But its fun to see him realize that his free ride with Karen's mom is coming to an end. Joan Cusack is great in that role too. In Frank's best move, he agrees to leave his 2 year old son as collateral on a debt instead of getting a toe chopped off.
The kids are growing up fast. Lip still seems incapable of feeling for anyone, but has something for Karen. He is running a fight club and selling alcohol, tobacco and pot out of an ice-cream truck. Iam is hurt by the guy he cared about last year, and wants to go to West Point. The daughter, whose name I forget, is running a day care even though she is about 12. This show is so funny.
Anyway, I liked the first episode.

(42,770 posts)it was in it's first season like many hit shows do. Instead of sticking with a winning ticket - they
get a big head, and need more affirmation, and change the concept too much
To me, the greatness of this was the core focus was the family and neighbors in their house, Joan Cusack's house, and the bar with minor offshoots.
Last night it seemed to change to multiple locales and too many new people.
I am all for Joan breaking out of the house (if I actually knew her)....but why change what was so funny before?
Burning up all that pot was not believable at all. :>
Last night they

Would give a fortune to be a fly on the wall in the show's script development meetings. Bet they
are all doing tequila shots and smoking joints

(10,437 posts)The extent of script development for these guys is working out how to replace the odd slang term or location-specific reference...

(17,742 posts)selling those things out of an ice cream truck... to kids! Well, they make sure they are 14 or something.
This whole show is like a train wreck that you just can't stop watching.
I'm waiting for how the story will arc about Karen's dad's suicide. Will there be life insurance money that Frank somehow gets wind of? Or some other grift that Frank will come up with regarding his mysterious disappearance.

But that would be a great idea! This is one of my favorite shows.

(4,851 posts)He truly loves Karen, but in his own abused childhood type of way. I'm wondering if she really is pregnant. And that Jesus boyfriend of hers is going to be a very bad guy when this is all over.
I was so glad to see Steve again. Fiona deserves something good in her life.
