I came across it by complete accident this past Wednesday night on the WorldView network, while channel-surfing for something worthwhile. It's a Swedish TV show (English subtitles), set in 1790-era Stockholm, where a young, idealistic police commissioner solves various crimes. Well written and acted, with great detail as to costumes and art direction, not to mention references to the political viewpoints of the time. Highly recommended, particularly for those of you who are already into Swedish mysteries. Read the Wikipedia write-up for further details.....

MHz Worldview has just converted its weeknight prime time to all drama, mysteries six nights a week and a foreign movie on Thursdays.
The current series are
Inspector Brunetti (takes place in Italy, but it's in German, go figure)
Van Veeteren (Swedish, takes place in an imaginary country that seems to be Generic Northern Europe)
Maria Wern (Swedish)
Anno 1790 (Swedish) and East-West 101 (Australian)
Inspector Coliandro (Italian)
Beck (Swedish)
Since these series all have limited runs, Maria Wern is scheduled to end and be replaced by Inspector Maigret (French) in a couple of weeks, and A Case of Conscience, an Italian courtroom drama, will start at about the same time.
