Love old-time medicine. Hopefully they're being reasonably factual in their depictions.

I started watching the newest episode. And realized I wasn't in the right mood to watch it. Lurid is a really good word for it.

The ugliness of the time (including the reality of very poor sanitation) comes through quite clearly. BBC had a show (Copper) that, though it took place during civil war era NYC, was likewise quite realistic to the times, including what it really would have been like when the streets were the latrines. I've always thought the past decade's myriad westerns and other period pieces on tv and movies were rendered pretty ridiculous by their failure to even minimally address those realities.

So, I give it kudos for the gritty realism, even though I'm often cringing.... ewwww!
