The last episode was disappointing, with elements lifted directly from Supernatural and Doctor Who, psychic paper, a warehouse that is bigger on the inside, and deals with the devil made by a '30s blues musician (okay, so it wasn't Robert Johnson this time) and the spouse of a cancer patient.
Any fans of the show? The first episode looked promising.

(22,340 posts)I haven't seen the show, but the comics have a lot of supernatural elements to them.
I'll have to give it a look.

(6,594 posts)for the comic book. I think Papa Midnight gave The Winchester to Constantine in 1985 or so, early in the comics run.
I think it is fair to say any elements in common with Supernatural is because Alan Moore had a big hand in establishing the genre of urban fantasy and it's elements with Constantine. That being said Supernatural has defined the genre for TV so I guess it is at least fair to say that they are swapping creative DNA back and forth.
For me the real question is if they will make him bisexual, if they do this show will be a winner in my book and if they don't then it will only be a pale imitation.

(4 posts)To be fair, Hellblazer pre-dates Doctor Who and Supernatural, and both could have easily taken story/element ideas from the original comic series.
From a discussion on this very subject:
"In the DCU the House of Mystery, the House of Secrets & even The Oblivion Bar are all bigger on the inside then they appear on the outside. The House of Mystery has been around since 1951 & the House of Secrets has been around since 1956. Doctor Who's TARDIS has been around since 1963; so if I had to accuse anyone of ripping off anyone I would say the Doctor Who people ripped off DC Comics.
BTW in the New 52 DCU continuity John Constantine was once the owner of the House of Mystery. This episode did imply that the safe house maybe the House of Mystery itself."
I am IN LOVE with this series. Not like, love. This past episode E04 has to have been the single most gripping hour on tv this entire fall season. It had EVERYTHING: story, drama, action, VFX/SFX, cinematography, horror, stunts/choreography. Exceptional. I was riveted, couldn't look away.
PS: my peep Ryan - one of the VFX crew on Supernatural - says he hears from a reliable source that E06 is even better. W00T!!!
