Why am I so upset that a favorite character may be leaving a show? *SPOILERS WARNING*

This is about Grey's Anatomy, so if you don't want to see spoilers or speculation, don't read down.

I don't even know where to talk about this, or if anyone will even understand the lunacy I'm going through. I think I'm crazy to even be upset about this, and would love to know WHY this happens to me.

I think Patrick Dempsey's character Derek Shepherd is going to get killed off, despite the fact he has supposedly signed on for this and next season.

I've been through this before, with ER, although the characters had an eventual happy ending. This ending I fear is going to be very unhappy. Stupidly, I've let a television relationship between two main characters consume my thoughts. I've invested 11 seasons and 10 years into this relationship and now - poof.

I have no desire to see his love interest grieve and move on.

WHY the hell am I like this? Is this a psychological phenomenon? How have others dealt with this?

I understand what you are saying I have felt it about other shows.

I think I actually grieved when LOST was over and I think of some of those actors as old friends.

I watched Grey's from the beginning. Now I put it on or DVR it and don't even pay attention. I think it's time is over.
I agree I would like to see a happy ending for Derek, but I really won't be upset if what you say is true.
I think poor writing has ruined this show and although the early years were good,it is nowhere comparable to ER.

I actually heard that he signed his contract through next year. We should be OK until next year at least.

Also, his wife just asked him for a divorce. He may need to stay on the show for his own mental state.

I deleted the show's timer, deleted the unwatched shows, no more of it.

Not just Derek, but all other tearjerking deaths and departures. It's become so much a soap opera, but reading twitter tonight did it for me.

Did not watch the show. Use hashtag #greysanatomy

Shonda is a jerk. You did very much the same as I did. Why this show can't seem to let anyone be happy is beyond me. I said I was done when she needlessly killed off Mark and Lexi. I should have kept my promise. I truly think she wants the show to be canceled so she can focus more on Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder (if that crapfest isn't canceled already).
