Great first episode and a surprising boot for me, but my wife called it. I think it was the underpants, but she said Vytes just seemed a little creepy and trying too hard to impress people. He just presented himself badly. He never built a solid core group and instead tried to pander to a lot, which made him a threat.
So the show itself is off to a great start. It begins with a quick intro to each contestant. They all mention their past mistakes and how this will change. The two tribes are Ta Keo and Bayon. It starts with the familiar get the supplies you want off the boat, but has a reward added in. The first tribe to get to a big bag of rice on another boat gets that reward, but you have to wait until the tribe chooses to stop getting supplies from the big boat, then all go to the rice. They go to work on the supplies, then Wigglesworth, my favorite so far, jumps in to swim to the boat with the rice. She leads most of the way, but its just a bit too far. Still, she showed how to do it and Woo from her tribe jumps in and takes it the rest of the way.
Shelter building, getting to know one another and start forming alliances ... Kelley Wentworth finds a clue that says the idol is hidden under a part of the first challenge. She will have to get it when no one is looking. Crazy Abi is convinced someone stole her bracelet. Turns out she was right, but it seems like it was not intentional. She is still pissed and bitching to everyone. So much for changing her game.
Off to the first challenge. Its a throw back to the very first episode. You swim out to a raft with handles and fire on it. You swim it back, lighting torches along the way. At the end its the old build a long pole by knotting short sticks together so you can reach through to a key. Get the key and unlock the gate, winning fire and immunity. Its close, but in the end Wigglesworth loses it for her tribe. But while everyone is paying attention to the attempts to grab the key, Kelly W grabs the hidden immunity idol. I thought Vytas might have seen her, but he never said anything. Kelly is fearful that she will go home, but I doubt it. She is way too valuable.
Back at camp Vytas is showing off his yoga in his crazy colored underpants. I have decided, this is why he went hoe, because he wore silly underpants. It worked for Secret Agent Phillip, but not for Vytas. He looked like he was creeping out on the girls. At tribal council, Abi-Maria seemed to know she was up for it. IT was back to the old, who builds shelter and who talks on the beach. Wigglesworth seems safe. I love haw Jeff Varner was in the flip position, with two alliances. The strong shelter builders and the beach talkers. He went with the beach talkers, which might have been a mistake. I would have dropped Abi, but I guess Vytas' underpants were too hard to deal with.

I think this could be an interesting season because they've all been there before. There are a few I barely remember but I kinda remember them the more they talk.

That underwear was too funny. I was not sorry to see him go, but he was physically strong and a good swimmer, that might come back to haunt them.

(16,334 posts)He was asked about those stupid underwear. He said they have to send clothes in ahead of time for approval and was told his underwear was too plain. So he asked some friends about finding something else and they told him to try MeUndies. The production team loved it.
the producers even pick out your underwear. That is just insane.

(10,642 posts)Why was Vytas wearing underwear in the first place? Did he have shorts on in the beginning but took them off?
Abi got a little goofy over her bag...was the bracelet the only thing in it? She seems to think it gives her superpowers, or something.
Love seeing Kelly W. and, of course, Joe, back!
Here's what Probst thinks of the players:

(4,019 posts)The game has changed so much since the early seasons. It looks easier now, IMO, not that I could do it. They have so many clothes now, have you noticed? I seems they used to just have the clothes on their backs.
New School Survivor includes the immunity idol, which I have never much cared for, especially when they hide them in plain sight. Don't even get me started on Redemption Island. I hated that twist!
I like Wiglesworth, hope she goes far!
