Baxter Black is retiring for health reasons.
there was a thread on FB, my son sent me a screen capture. it said he was in hospice but I think it got edited. either way this is sad news. he has been living nearby for a number of years. he did a fundraiser for a ranching group I was involved with a long time ago. will always remember that.
some archived columns - https://www.thefencepost.com/opinion/baxter-black/ not sure how well FB links work but here this is pinned to the top - https://www.facebook.com/thefencepost/ We're devastated to hear that Baxter Black is retiring, for health reasons. We'll be sharing some of our favorite columns over the next few weeks, and would love to hear about your favorite column, poem or memory. Baxter's wife, Cindy Lou, said they would welcome good wishes emailed to cindylou@baxterblack.com.

1. Many years ago I wrote him an email and he answered me.
I think it was in relation to the whole Terry Schiavo.thing where he had made some statement about Trent Lott being a doctor who could vouch for leaving her on life support. I was very polite in pointing out that Howard Dean was equally qualified as a doctor to speak on the subject and he wrote back a very nice answer. It was all pretty nice and civilized and I appreciated it.
