Phoenix is the best city for pizza in the country.
Yes, you read that right. Better than New York, Chicago, or even Providence, Rhode Island home of the grilled pizza.
Those may be fighting words to you - and many will no doubt disagree, but that's what the readers of Travel + Leisure said. It seems diners who cast their votes in the "2016 Americas Favorite Places" survey have fallen in love with the variety of Phoenixs pizza pies.
In Phoenix, locals and visitors can enjoy classic thin crust joints and James Beard award-winning margheritas, or order gourmet Neapolitan, wood-fired pies, traditional deep-dishes and yes, even drive-through pizza by the slice. This Southwestern city even has an annual pizza festival, said Travel + Leisure in its write up.
In fact, acclaimed Phoenix chef Chris Bianco was the first to win a regional James Beard Award for a pizza parlor, Pizzeria Bianco, in 2003.

(53,758 posts)I highly doubt Phoenix has better pizza than NYC.
Nothing like two slices for lunch in a brown paper bag with grease stains forming on it before you hit the door on the way back to work on a busy day.
That you can get any kind of pizza in Phx, NY style, chicago style, wood fired, fancy pizzas, whatever you want for a great price.
And some of the places, like Pizza Bianco, are world renowned, they are not just some greasy pizza joint like most of the places in NYC.
Phx in general is turning into a restaurant mecca, right now the crazy growth is on 7th Street, who knows what's next.

(53,758 posts)Ever lived there where you don't have to drive miles and miles and miles and miles across that burning hot valley?
Been there and done that in both places.

(16,295 posts)The food prices in NYC are out of control.
I can get a pizza at Bianco for 13 bucks, in NYC a single potato knish costs that much.
Today for example I finished up a game of disc golf at a local Phx park and then went to a place for street tacos, paid 6 bucks. Sat outside to enjoy the 72 degree weather.
