Ex-Avondale police sergeant fired over 'racially insensitive' Facebook posts

An Avondale Police Department sergeant was terminated in September after he posted racially insensitive material on his Facebook account, city officials confirmed.

The posts by former Sgt. Sean Maas were directed at a former Avondale officer and his wife, who were business partners with Maas, city officials confirmed.

Avondale police employees reported the questionable Facebook posts, according to Susan Segal, an attorney representing the city of Avondale.

Police Sgt. Thomas Alt, a department spokesman, also confirmed that Maas was terminated by the department.
