Maricopa County Democrats Yank Support For Phoenix Councilman Nowakowski
The Maricopa County Democratic Party on Saturday passed a resolution to withdraw support for embattled Phoenix city council member Michael Nowakowski.
The resolution refers to comments made by Nowakowski in 2016 opposing same sex marriage and allowing transgender people to use the restroom of their choice.
"I never thought I would see the day that men and men would be married,” Nowakowski said at the time. "Or that people are allowed to go into the same bathroom as my daughter. This world is changing, and it’s time for us to take the leadership and change it back to the way it should be.”
At the time, video of Nowakowski’s comments sparked calls from the LGBT community for his resignation. Those remarks continue to haunt him.
