The Stench of Voter Suppression is All Over Arizona

During the Obama 2012 election, we had a great voter registration effort..which also added many voters to the Permanent Early Voter List (PEVL)..I guess the republicans don't like it...people voting that is..the PEVL is very popular...

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Gov. Doug Ducey (R) signed SB 1485 into law on Tuesday afternoon. The voter suppression bill, passed by the State Senate only an hour before the governor signed it, significantly revises the state’s Permanent Early Voting List (PEVL). A hugely popular provision in Arizona, the PEVL allows eligible voters to sign up to receive a mail ballot permanently. As of Tuesday, 2,047,365 voters are on the list.

According to Democratic Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, who opposes the legislative action, 75% of Arizonans are members of the permanent early voting list and 80% of Arizonans used the early voting mechanism to cast ballots in the 2020 election.

Several Democrats said Tuesday that the voters who would be most negatively impacted by this legislation are the ones who do not exercise their constitutional right regularly.

“Voting is probably our most precious civil right, but it’s not mandatory … (this bill) seeks, as it seems, to punish those who do not regularly vote,” said state Sen. Kristen Engel. “Those are not the folks we need to make it more difficult to vote.”

“This will impact all voters, not just Democrats … This is going to impact independents. This is going to impact Republicans,” said state Sen. Rebecca Rios, the minority leader.

4. I hesitated to use that word..but we worked hard, feet on the street during

our voter registration efforts...so many people are on the PEVL.. and so many people involved..I have been in AZ since '94 from Mass. - ..we got through Symington the crook, Brewer no conscience, ALT fuel fiasco, and now ice cream man wants to up end voting in AZ..we can do it again...
