Arkansas prepares for executions Wednesday, depending on Supreme Court

Though Judge Wendell Griffen issued a temporary restraining order putting a halt to Arkansas executions, the state Correction Department is proceeding to prepare for Wednesday executions if the state is successful in getting the Arkansas Supreme Court to dissolve the restraining order.

Though no execution has taken place in Arkansas since November 2005, the state has its procedures ready and has begun them.

For those who might be interested, on below you'll find the media ground rules for execution coverage. Reporters on hand are restricted on communication tools. No photographs, for example. Only three media witnesses are allowed in the execution chamber itself.

Nine condemned man are seeking to halt the process until the state complies with an earlier agreement to provide information about the sources of drugs to be used in the execution. The legislature made that information secret in 2015. In some cases, time is of the essence to the state because the drugs could expire before they could be used and most legitimate drug makers aren't willing to provide — or be identified as providing — drugs for the executions.

They couldn't stand Governor Beebe's moratorium on executions.
