Anaheim dental clinic shut down again after more bacteria found in water system
The Anaheim dental clinic where dozens of children contracted difficult-to-treat mycobacterial infections was shut down again Friday after county health agency officials found bacteria yet again in the water system, just a little over a month after the facility reopened.
Health Care Agency officials ordered the Childrens Dental Groups Anaheim clinic to stop seeing patients as of Thursday afternoon, after they found the mycobacteria in the water delivery system while conducting one of a series of periodic tests, County Health Officer Dr. Eric Handler said Friday.
Handler said more children might have been exposed to the bacteria and that officials are in the process of tracking down families of children who have had baby tooth root canals also known as pulpotomies since the clinic reopened Nov. 8.
We really dont know how the bacteria is in the system and thats why weve ordered the closure, Handler said. We dont know how many more children have been exposed to the bacteria this time.
