Student sues NVUSD, Napa High football players and coaches in relation to hazing

A former Napa High School student and his mother are suing the school district, football coaches, players and their parents for incidents related to last year’s hazing before the annual Big Game.

The lawsuit alleges that Napa High School Principal Annie Petrie, former football coach Troy Mott, and coaches Jesus Martinez and Gerald Harris knew about and condoned the ritualistic hazing performed by football players and, when sexual battery was reported, were indifferent about it despite their legal obligation to protect students.

The five minors named in the suit, identified by initials only, are being sued for sexual battery, false imprisonment, negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

“The law requires schools to protect students from sexual assaults and ritualistic hazing,” said the plaintiff’s attorney, Jacob D. Flesher of Flesher Schaff & Schroeder, Inc. of Rocklin, on Thursday. “What was allowed to occur here is not acceptable. We intend to hold the district and perpetrators accountable for allowing these disgusting acts to occur to my client and other children in Napa.”
