Dangerous to breathe the air in many parts of northern Calif.

Dangerous air quality in the San Francisco Bay Area

Smoke from the Camp Fire has drifted over the San Francisco Bay area, bringing dangerously high levels of fine particulate pollution (PM2.5, particles less than 2.5 microns or 0.0001 inch in diameter). Hourly levels of PM2.5 were in the red “unhealthy” range at official EPA monitors from San Francisco to San Jose to Santa Cruz on Friday morning, with a suffocating 138 μg/m3 observed in Redwood City. The 24-hour PM2.5 standard is 35 μg/m3. Many Purple Air personal air pollution sensors in the Bay Area were recording PM2.5 levels in the purple “very unhealthy” range on Friday. At this level, EPA warns to expect “Significant aggravation of heart or lung disease and premature mortality in persons with cardiopulmonary disease and the elderly; significant increase in respiratory effects in general population.”

I'm glad me and mine are relatively healthy at baseline. I'd hate to have an underlying heart/lung condition to exacerbate. I'm sure there are lots of very unwell people right now.

I live just north of the Carr, Delta and Hirz fires. Finally broke down and bought a good air purifier and kept the windows closed for 2 months. It was never-ending. 2008 was also a bad year due to Shasta-Trinity NF fires. Feel lucky (for myself) that the prevailing winds in and around Chico/Paradise are now from the east to northeast. Speaking of, at 8pm tonite another wind event, 30-50 mph, in the fire area. Firefighters are working like crazy to construct line and find hot spots.

Now the Camp Fire in Paradise tops the list of Most Destructive California Fires. Always thought Paradise looked like one big fire trap as far back as the 1970's when I worked nearby in Challenge.

This is climate change, not poor forest management, despite what Republicans say. Hitler and Stalin are amateurs compared to the Koch brothers and what they've done to create Climate Deniers. We are on the verge of Mass Extinction.

In the meantime, get use to smoke. It is only going to get worse.

On and off, not constant luckily.

I live on the coast not far from the ocean.

Lots of smoke in the air can be seen to the east.

I hope you don't get sick from the smoke.

There is some very toxic crap in it!

Take care!!!

Friday the air was clear and the sky was blue. Today the sky is light gray. We need rain to clean the air.....Who started this fire??? No federal support because California will take care of business AGAIN.
