The recall of tens of thousands of pounds of marijuana and other products after a Sacramento laboratory was caught faking pesticide test results has jolted a cannabis industry that has struggled for legitimacy in its first year facing a full-slate of state regulations.
The action against Sequoia Analytical Lab last month was yet another cut in the death-by-a-thousand-paper-cuts scenario that is playing out for so many producers in the state, said Hezekiah Allen, the chairman of Emerald Grown, a co-op made up of about 100 licensed growers mostly north of San Francisco.
The regulated market will only thrive when producers and consumers have confidence in the labs, he said. Right now that confidence is something we dont have.
According to Allen and other growers and merchants, the nascent industry has been overwhelmed financially by taxes, licensing and a slew of compliance hassles in 2018. The move against Sequoia Labs was just another blow.

(3,163 posts)I know of no "pesticides" that are applied to crops for the purpose of deterring mammals. They are applied to prevent insects from attacking the plants, and I'm pretty sure insects can and do attack pot plants much the same as any other plant.

(11,261 posts)while vegetable and fruit plants in the same area have been destroyed by bugs. maybe its climate too , growing season is short here. That is my experience anyway but i may be wrong. Squirrels and woodchucks never ate them but i think deer might. There are things people use to keep deer out of flower and vegetable gardens, sprays and other animal urine and droppings work. I don't think i would use any pot if any insecticide was applied. Haven't smoked in years anyway.

(767 posts)I do not know of any "crop" problems with "weed?" This year we had some bugs which we treated with "tobacco" juice. I think only NON permitted people would use poisons. There are still people out there illegally growing and then selling to a licensed organization.....I am super happy the weed is tested and weed found BAD is rejected. In the past few years the testing has found a percentage which is BAD and each year the percentage goes DOWN. I know over fertilized plants are rejected because of chemical contamination. The last few weeks of growing is without fertilizer to get chemicals OUT of the plants......Better growing technique's means better plants.......PARTY ON DUDE....
